Thomas George Parks

George ParksMr Thomas G. Parks graduated from QUB (1959) and carried out his postgraduate training at the Royal Victoria Hospital and City Hospital in Belfast, St Mark’s Hospital and Royal Hospital, London. He spent three months visiting departments in the USA before taking consultant appointment. He obtained his FRCSEd (1963) and FRCSI (1981 ad eundem).

A well renowned academic, he was senior lecturer in surgery (QUB) (1971-1973), reader in surgery (1972-1982), Professor of Surgical Science (Personal Chair) (1982-1997) and Professor of Surgery and Head of Department, QUB (1997-2000). He also led an active surgical career and was consultant surgeon in Belfast City Hospital and RVH, Belfast (1971-1997) and RVH (1997-2000). His principal interests were in gastrointenstinal surgery, particularly colorectal disease and trauma of which he published on widely.

Presidential roles include President of Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland (1992) (coloproctology section), Royal Society of Medicine, Irish society of Gastroenterology, St Mark’s Association and many other associations.
