Join us in RCSI on Thursday, 7 November at 12.00pm for our final lunchtime history talk of 2024. Entitled ‘Medicine in Late Medieval Ireland’, the talk will be delivered by Professor Pierce Grace, Adjunct Clinical Professor at the School of Medicine and an Associate Fellow in the School of History and Geography at the University of Limerick.

Professor Grace is a retired consultant general and vascular surgeon at UL Hospitals, Limerick (1996-2014) where he was chief clinical director from 2012-2014. He was also a tutor in Anatomy at the UL School of Medicine from 2014-2020.

Following an MA in Local History in 2012, he published a book in the Maynooth Local History series entitled The Middle Class of Callan, Co Kilkenny, 1825-1845. His current research interests are on the history of medicine in Ireland with an emphasis on the experience of health, medicine, and disease during the medieval period; this work has resulted in several publications. He was previously active in medical research (surgery/vascular surgery/bioengineering) and medical education (surgery and anatomy).

We are looking forward to hearing from Professor Grace on this fascinating topic, and all are welcome to join us in the Albert Lecture Theatre, RCSI Dublin on Thursday, 7 November at 12.00pm, with tea and coffee provided afterwards.
