RCSI launches guidelines for the care of complex surgical patients
New clinical guidelines on the care of complex surgical patients were launched by RCSI during its 2005 annual Millin Meeting.
Developed by the RCSI Clinical Guidelines Committee in conjunction with the Irish Higher Surgical Training Group (IHSTG) these new guidelines outline recommendations on the management of 15 acute surgical conditions such as gastrointestinal bleeding, severe bilary sepsis and ischaemic bowel.
Commenting on the launch Professor Paul Redmond, Chairman of the Clinical Guidelines Committee said this represented a “unique departure” for the Clinical Guidelines Committee, as they were the first set of guidelines to be written in conjunction with the IHSTG.
He commended the excellent contributions of the IHSTG and in particular Higher Surgical Trainee Ronan Cahill.
The new guidelines will be available in a handy pocket sized edition so that both trainees and consultants alike will have access to them in an acute surgical care setting.
