RCSI, in conjunction with the College of Ophthalmologists, hosted the annual Montgomery Lecture this evening in the Albert Lecture Theatre of the RCSI.

This year’s lecture entitled ‘The Biological Treatment of Age Related Macular Degeneration (AMD)’ - the leading cause of blindness in people over 60 in the western world - was delivered by Professor Alan C. Bird, Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology and Honorary Consultant Ophthalmologist at the Institute of Ophthalmology, Moorefield’s Eye Hospital, London.

The Montgomery Lecture has been held since the death of Robert Montgomery, Assistant Surgeon at the Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital, in 1912 who, following his death left a sum of money to be spent on the organisation of an annual lecture in memory of his mother. The event rotates between hosting institutions: the RCSI and UCD, every five years.
