Foundation stone laid for new RCSI-Medical University of Bahrain
The foundation stone for the new RCSI-Medical University of Bahrain (RCSI-MUB) campus in Muharraq, Bahrain was jointly laid today by His Highness the Prime Minister of Bahrain Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Al-Khalifa and the Tánaiste and Minister for Health and Children in Ireland Mary Harney.
Due to be completed in October 2007, the new campus will replace RCSI MUB’s current premises in the Seef district of Manama, Bahrain.
The location of the new purpose-built university campus adjacent to the King Hamad General Hospital, which is currently under construction, will make it a key component of the new Health Oasis - an International Centre of Excellence for Bahrain and the region which is currently being jointly developed by the RCSI and the government of Bahrain.
The new campus will be built in phases starting with the central administration and medical teaching building and student accommodation, which should be fully operational by October 2007. Additional schools of nursing, pharmacy, physiotherapy and dentistry will be added at a later date.
