Postgraduate conferring ceremony in Penang

Students were conferred with Membership (MRCSI) of RCSI at the Penang Medical College on the evening of the 24 August 2006.

The ceremony was presided over by Professor Gerald O'Sullivan, President of RCSI; Dato' Dr Ratnalingham, Principal of the Penang Medical College; Professor Amir Khir, Dean of the Penang Medical Faculty; Ms Susseila, Chief of Surgery at the Penang General Hospital; Mr Fintan Foy, Associate Director for Academic Affairs, RCSI; and Professor Arnold Hill, Chief Examiner and Professor of Surgery at RCSI.

This is the eighth consecutive year that a postgraduate conferring ceremony has been held in Penang. In that time, in excess of 130 Fellows, Associate Fellows and Members have been conferred. Commenting on the event, RCSI President Professor Gerald O'Sullivan said: "Without doubt, one of the college's greatest successes in our long history was the establishment of the Penang Medical School with our partners, University College Dublin. Success can only be achieved through vision and then lots of hard work. It also illustrates the very strong link between RCSI and the state of Penang and indeed the people of Malaysia. By continuing to work together, there are no limits to what we can achieve in the areas of both undergraduate and postgraduate studies."

The successful candidates conferred with the Membership of the College were: Dr Ahmed Abbas Seif Al Nasr, Dr Sajid Aslan Khawaja, Dr Mahmood Ibrahim Kisht, Dr Ehab Michael, Dr Amjad Muhammad, Dr Hassan Othman, Dr Aatif Hassan Shaikh, Dr Abdelazim Ahmed Abasher, Dr Turki Mohammed Al-Turaiki, Dr Ammar Abd Al-Jabbar Ali, Dr Jamal Naser Muthana, Dr Khurram Nasim, Dr Abdallah Said, Dr Mohamed Hamdy Mahmoud Shosha and Dr Mohammed Ibrahim Suar Eldahab.
