Professor Ciaran O’Boyle, Head of the RCSI International School of Healthcare Management and Dr Anne Hickey, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Psychology in the Division of Population Health, delivered three major lectures and workshops in Japan on measuring individual quality of life in healthcare.

The sessions were held at the University of Tokyo, Kyoto University and the University of Niigata respectively and each was attended by an invited audience of 80 participants from major academic and medical centres.

The tour was funded by the Japanese Government and was organised by Dr. Takashi Nakajima, Consultant Neurologist and Deputy Director of Niigata Hospital, the leading hospital for the treatment of neurological conditions. The invitation reflects widespread interest in Japanese medical circles in the individualised approach to the measurement of quality of life pioneered at the RCSI.
