RCSI hosts community health week
A health week for the local community is being held at RCSI this week.
Members of the local community will attend a number of workshops and educational talks as part of the week long initiative that is being run by the Sports and Recreation Council and Whitefriar/Aungier Street Community Council with the support of the College. The health week is aimed at the promotion of health in the community as well as life-long participation in activity and recreation.
Over the course of the week a number of informative workshops are being held on such topics as nutrition, child protection, caring for your eyes, asthma and breathing problems and first aid. RCSI’s Aileen Barrett from the School of Physiotherapy delivered an interactive talk on sports injuries.
On Wednesday there was an exhibition in the exam hall with information stands on local clubs, community initiatives and activities as well as stands promoting health and active lifestyles. Medical check-ups will be provided by the team at the Mercer Medical Clinic on Thursday.
A gym demonstration took on Wednesday afternoon followed by group demonstrations on the squash and basketball courts as well as try-outs of various activities including Tai Chi, Yoga, badminton, aerobics and more. On Sunday an exhibition on women and sport will take place.
