REACH RCSI intercultural day

An intercultural sports, health and recreation day was held for members of the local community at RCSI today.

The event, which aims to encourage intercultural participation in sports, is part of the REACH RCSI programme.

Some of the many activities that took place include basketball, tai chi, hurling, Sambo wrestling, majorettes performance and treasure hunts. Representatives from the Football Association of Ireland (FAI) also attended the event and had a ‘speed radar machine’ that measures the speed at which a ball is struck. Information stands on all sports and activities available in the Dublin area were also available.

The young people from the REACH RCSI Homework Club showcased their art work, completed throughout the year under the guidance of the artists from the 'City Art Squad'. The exhibition included masks, sculptures, paintings and skeletal sketches.

REACH project manager Maria Kelly said: "Today is a drive to encourage further intercultural participation in existing sporting and recreational groups.”
