RCSI hosts community health and fitness day
A health day for the local community was held at RCSI today, run as part of the REACH programme in conjunction with Whitefriar Aungier Area Community Council (WAACC).
Members of the local community attended a number of workshops and educational talks as part of the initiative, which is aimed at the promotion of health in the community as well as life long participation in activity and recreation.
Today, there was an exhibition with information stands on local clubs, community initiatives and activities as well as stands promoting health and active lifestyles. A number of sports demonstrations and games also took place in the exam hall and basement including Tai Chi, handball, basketball and wrestling. Members from the RCSI paramedic programme also provided defibrillator training to the football team coaches of REACH sponsored Aungier Celtic football club and WAACC.
On Tuesday, 50 medical check-ups were provided by the team at the Mercer Medical Clinic. A number of informative workshops were also delivered by the Irish Cancer Society and Diabetes Ireland.
REACH Project Manager Maria Kelly said: “I would like to thank all the staff for their help in making these two days a huge success.”
