GEP Orientation Day at RCSI
RCSI welcomed new students into its Graduate Entry Programme (GEP) at Orientation Day.
This year’s 62 students originate from Ireland, UK, USA, Canada, and Denmark and have academic qualifications in areas as diverse as law, philosophy, arts and social sciences, engineering and biomedical, and allied health sciences.
The RCSI Graduate Entry Programme was launched in 2006 and was the first of its kind in Ireland. The accelerated four-year programme incorporates teaching and learning activities suited to an experienced cohort of students and is emphasised by early clinical exposure. The core curriculum is presented in modules based around the systems of the body with weekly case studies illustrating the application of clinical medicine.
Professor Alan Johnson, Director of the Graduate Entry Programme, said: “I am delighted to welcome the students here today, on what I know will be a rewarding four years for staff and students alike. The RCSI Graduate Entry Programme is yet another innovative way of widening access to a career in medicine by producing more doctors who are trained and educated to the highest level.”
As part of the orientation day, students will register for the programme and meet academic and support staff for an introduction to the Graduate Entry Programme and other aspects of student life in RCSI. The day will culminate in a lunch with staff in the boardroom.
