22 primary science teachers representing 19 schools participated in the RCSI's ‘Come to your senses… with RCSI teachers’ workshop on Thursday, 6 November.

The workshop, which was delivered by the RCSI Primary science for Teachers Iniative (PSTI) team is funded by the RCSI Synergy scheme in order to support the teaching of the primary science curriculum. Members of the initiative are Dr Maria Morgan, Dr Marc DeVocelle, Ms Maria Kelly, Dr Kenny Winser lead by Dr Jacqueline Daly. It is run in conjunction with the REACH (Recreation, Education and Community Health) programme, the community and outreach programme of the College.

The ‘Come to your Senses’ programme aims to promote the concept of ‘learning through doing’ and encourages primary teachers to develop their confidence and enthusiasm in science education in their own classroom. The theme of the senses was used to introduce some basic scientific concepts, combined with hands on experience of classroom activities and experiments, relevant to the primary science curriculum. The day was a great success, and provided a fun and informative forum for primary science teachers.

In addition this workshop provided novel activities for the primary school teachers to use with their pupils during National Science week (9-16 November).
