RCSI Charter Day Meetings begin
The second day of the annual Charter Day Meetings took place today. Four parallel sessions ran this morning on the topics of general surgery, head and neck cancer, urology and paediatric orthopaedic surgery.
On Friday afternoon, a session on ‘Maintenance of Competence through Audit’ ran followed by the Johnson and Johnson Lecture by Professor John Monson from the University of Rochester Medical Centre on the topic of 'The Failing Surgeon'.
This evening, Professor Frank Keane, President of RCSI will give his Presidential Address, followed by the 85th Abraham Colles Lecture by Dr Michael Brennan, President of the Mayo Clinic, USA and graduate of RCSI. Dr Brennan’s lecture on ‘Professionalism’.
The RCSI Charter Day Meetings are held annually to commemorate the 11 February 1784, when RCSI was first established by Royal Charter by King George III. This year’s meeting also celebrates the College’s 200th Anniversary on St Stephen’s Green.
