RCSI students launch third RCSI student medical journal
Students from RCSI launched the third issue of the RCSIsmj (RCSI student medical journal). The RCSIsmj is run by students for students and staff alike and aims to promote student research and scientific writing.
It is a multidisciplinary publication including pieces from Medical, Physiotherapy, and Pharmacy students from RCSI. Articles range from original research, audits, and special interest pieces to the publication of abstracts, case reports, and elective reviews.
The RCSIsmj is an annual publication and is now in its third year as Ireland's premier student medical journal. This year’s issue has a special competition feature on ethical issues, concerning limits of confidentiality regarding a patient's HIV status in an extended family setting.
Professor Hannah McGee, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, RCSI complemented the student editorial team for their production and their professionalism in dealing with issues such as rejection and revision of papers submitted in order to achieve a quality product. "The quality of the journal is a testament to the students who have worked very successfully as a team, and to those committed academic staff who support the students in achieving their goals. We have no doubt that these papers published by our undergraduates will be the first cherished CV entries for many successful careers in the future, " said Professor McGee.
