  • General news

Breast Cancer Ireland at RCSI today launched its inaugural Great Pink Run with the support of PwC, Ireland's largest professional services firm. Also supporting the event are Andrea Roche, one of the charity's ambassadors and 98FM's Claire Solan from the Morning Crew.

This unique accredited 5km Run & Family Fun Day will take place on Sunday, 4 September at the Point Village, where families, young and old, will be encouraged to participate, dressed in pink! The event aims to raise much needed funding for breast cancer research programmes in Ireland.

Thanks to the generosity of the Point Village, participants will be wowed by the Pink extravaganza that will unfold. Those keen to participate in the run, whether running, jogging or walking, will be limbered up by Bootcamp Ireland, and will then follow the pink route along the quays past Spencer Dock to Talbot Bridge, coming back up along Sir John Rogerson's Quay, in through the Grand Canal Dock area, across Samuel Beckett Bridge and back up to the finishing point.

Professor Arnold Hill, Chair of Breast Cancer Ireland said: "This Great Pink Run & Family Fun Day will be opportunity for the entire family to enjoy a day out together for a great cause."

Charity Ambassador, Andrea Roche explained: "When breast cancer affects a woman it not only affects her personally but indeed affects her entire family and friends' network. I have first-hand experience with my own mum and this is a great opportunity to show support, knowing that you are helping in the race for a cure."

Speaking at the launch, Evelyn Kelly, PwC's Head of Corporate Responsibility added: "PwC is delighted to support the Great Pink Run in aid of breast cancer. As a firm we are conscious to play our part in the community and support activities that promote the general health and wellbeing of individuals. With our offices at Spencer Dock, we are especially pleased that the run will pass right by our doorstep and we look forward to 4 September."

There will be plenty of prizes and lots of fun and excitement for all the family at the Point Village with amusements, entertainment and refreshments provided for all.

Sponsors of the event include Crosbie Properties; PwC; 98FM; Elan; Dunnes Stores; Print Fusion and Finnegan Menton, who, through their generosity are ensuring that all funds raised from the day will go directly towards funding our pioneering research programmes.
