Perdana University RCSI launches clinical forum

Professor Tom Gorey, Consultant Surgeon at the Mater University Hospital Dublin and Professor of Surgery at University College Dublin was the guest speaker at the inaugural Clinical Forum Meeting in Putrajaya on Friday, 19 August 2011.

Professor Gorey is a Council member of RCSI and a member of the Council Royal Academy of Medicine and Editor of the Journal of Medical Science. He is current President of the Society of Irish Breast Surgeons.

Professor Gorey outlined milestones in past treatment of patients with breast cancer including open biopsy diagnosis, advanced / nodal disease and radical surgery. He highlighted the significant patient outcome benefits of multidisciplinary team care, screening programmes, minimally invasive surgery and adjuvant therapy. He predicted future developments for breast cancer patients including genetic profiling, advanced image-guided biopsy and immunotherapy.

Faculty from Perdana University RCSI, Johns Hopkins Perdana University Graduate School of Medicine and surgeons from hospitals in Putrajaya attended the meeting, which was followed by a reception.
