RCSI medical students to embark on charity expedition to Mongolia
Third year RCSI medical students Robin McManus, Grant Dawson and Tristram Hills will take part in Go Help's Mongolia Charity Rally this summer. Teams from across the world take part every year by driving emergency vehicles to Mongolia's capital Ulaanbaatar. The RCSI team is called the Omega 3.
The team will depart for Mongolia on the evening of the 6th of July in a patient transport vehicle. On arrival in Ulaanbaatar their vehicle will be donated to the Go Help! charity, which will then be either used in the charity's ambulance service or sold to the Mongolian Government to be used in their services. The funds raised from the sale directly benefit Go Help's ongoing operations.
Go Help run numerous operations inside and outside Mongolia including: an ambulance service across Mongolia and a mobile library service for the less developed regions. Along with Go Help the team are also fundraising for Doctors without Borders and Right to Sight.
Since the RCSI team first conceived of the plan late last year they have organised sponsorship and backing to make this a reality and fundraising efforts are continuing.
How to help
The RCSI team have a donation page on their website: theomegathree.tumblr.com/donate and will also be around the college from 11-2 on the 22 June if you want to. Every Euro gets the team slightly closer to Mongolia. Any money left over after the trip will then be divided between the three charities the team are supporting.
Follow the Omega 3 team blog: theomegathree.tumblr.com who will be keeping it updated in the weeks running up to the start of the rally as well as on the rally itself.
