RCSI hosted a week-long International Education Forum this month which took place from 2-6 July. RCSI staff from RCSI Dublin, Bahrain and Perdana spent the week discussing contemporary issues in medical education and reflecting on the delivery of the undergraduate medical programme on the three campuses with an emphasis on the translation of educational research into high quality teaching and learning.

Although the focus of the Forum in 2012 was on the Junior Cycle in Medicine, there were a number of open sessions, which were open to all RCSI and partner organisation staff.

Highlights of the open sessions included:

• Seminar on ‘Peer Evaluation of Teaching; Developing a College Wide Approach’ by Professor Carol McGuinness, Director of Education, School of Psychology, Queen's University Belfast.
• Plenary Lecture on ‘International Education; Knowing Through Doing’ by Professor Tom Collins, President, RCSI Bahrain followed by a Discussion Forum.
• Keynote Address on ‘Developing Medical Education Research’ delivered by Professor Trudie Roberts, Director of the Leeds Institute of Medical Education, University of Leeds.

Speaking in advance of the event, Professor Hannah McGee, Dean, Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences, RCSI said: "The Forum provides a fantastic opportunity to learn about our international effort to provide a common curriculum across three world regions - in Europe and the Middle East and the Far East. We welcome over 30 international RCSI staff to Dublin for the events of this week. The three groups of staff will share their experiences during the past academic year to ensure that lessons learned can be built into further development of a common programme across three sites. We look forward to welcoming our international colleagues to RCSI in St. Stephen's Green this week and learning from their perspective and expertise."
