RCSI Running Club goes from strength to strength
The RCSI Running Club goes from strength to strength with several of its members participating in marathons all around the globe. This year more than 20 RCSI students participated in the Dublin City Marathon and some of these students will now go on to represent RCSI at the Boston Marathon scheduled to take place in April 2013.
For the past two years the team have raised funds for Breast Cancer Ireland. Recently the club presented Prof Arnie Hill with a cheque for €5,000 which the runners raised this year.
To qualify for a place in the Boston Marathon, students must first complete the Dublin City Marathon. Places are awarded based on finish times and all students going forward must raise funds for charity. Several students crossed the finish line with very impressive times including Richard Farnan (Pharmacy), first RCSI student to cross the line in 2'54". Richard was also the first RCSI student to cross the line at the Boston Marathon in April this year.
Corriena Brien, Student Services Manager congratulated all the club runners. She went on to praise the students for finding time to fit in the required training. She also added ‘Our runners bound for Boston in 2013 will shortly commence their fundraising activities. As you can imagine, with studying and training for the race, finding time to fundraise can often prove challenging. If you come across the team in their fundraising efforts please be generous and help them in this most worthy cause'.
Team members will be arranging a number of fundraising activities in the coming weeks and months.
