RCSI v Les Petites Cochons

The annual RCSI v Les Petites Cochons (San Antoine, UPMC) took place this weekend in Paris. The game, in existence for over 26 years, alternates between Dublin and Paris, depending on the location of the Six Nations battle.

By 9am the stadium started to fill up with ‘Les Petites Cochons’, the brass band, cheerleaders and their 300 supporters. Once the brass band finished playing 'Ireland's Call'followed by ‘La Marseillaise’ the game got underway.

RCSI put on a heroic performance with a strong lead in the first half after Phil Williams scored a try. The second half kicked off with a drop goal by Greg Hawe bringing the score to 0-8. However, several extremely controversial referee decisions and two tries by UPMC resulted in RCSI losing 12-8.

The team captain Martin Davey said: "It was hard to watch the game slip through our fingers, we worked extremely hard, next year we'll have them and it'll be on our own turf."

Unfortunately our defeat was swiftly followed by the defeat of the Irish international team in Paris.

"The team were incredible, they played their hearts out from start to finish. They were spectacular ambassadors of the college from beginning to end," said Emily O'Brien, Student Services.
