Cultural Diversity Month

This week, students from RCSI (Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland) began a series of events, lasting for four weeks, which will celebrate the myriad of cultures of the College's student body. RCSI Cultural Diversity Month 2016 will see a number of events showcasing the culture, traditions, food, music and dance from our students' home countries. There are over 60 nationalities represented in our student body.

On Monday, 7 March, the festivities got underway, with an acoustic ballad session and will continue right up to 1 April, when International Night, one of the highlight events in the student calendar, takes place. Cultural diversity is something the College prides itself on. International Food Night (on Friday, 11 March) is another highlight of the month, where students and staff can get acquainted with gastronomic delights from all four corners of the globe, while hearing the stories behind the origin of the food and how it is made.

Each day, RCSI's Exam Hall will be transformed into a lively Cultural Exhibition Fair where students from 16 various countries will showcase their culture, landscape, clothing and history of their home countries. The countries participating this year include Canada, Trinidad & Tobago, Egypt, Bahrain Malaysia, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Ireland, Kuwait, Australia and Pakistan, India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka (PIBS), to name but a few. Staff are encouraged to try to come along for the official opening today at 12.30pm.

Friday, 1 April the Annual International Night will be held in the Round Room of the Mansion House in Dublin. Guests at this entertaining celebration of international talent, music and dance will be transported around the globe as the student societies compete for the International Night crown. Other events include the RCSI Choral Society Concert (Monday, 14 March) and DiveRCSIty Talks (Wednesday, 9 March) will also take place at the College.
