University of Washington Professor gets a lesson in Physician Associate programme

Last week Professor Ruth Ballweg, Professor Emeritus at the Department of Family Medicine, University of Washington School of Medicine visited Dublin to learn more about RCSI's new Masters (MSc) in Physician Associate Studies programme.

Prof. Ballweg, also Director International Relations for the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants, met with RCSI's Dr Pauline Joyce and Professor David Kuhns from the Physician Associate programme, as well as Professor Hannah McGee, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, RCSI discussed how the programme fits into the development of the Physician Associate role within the broader context of PAs in the UK, as well across Europe and internationally.
 
They also discussed the development of an Irish national certification exam process for our graduates, as well as accreditation processes for the potential development of other PA programmes in Ireland. Profs Ballweg and Kuhns also spoke at the the First UK (and Ireland) Physician Associate Educators Summit, held on 14-15 April.
