On 3 September, 12 surgeons from Germany, Italy, France, Greece, India, Jordan, Ireland and the UK completed the first every European Clinical Leadership Development Programme for Surgeons at the RCSI Institute of Leadership.

The programme consisted of three, three day modules where the participants learnt about clinical leadership, emotional intelligence, healthcare quality systems, team development, finance, developing a business case, critical thinking and risk management. By the end of the programme they had all completed an improvement project in their place of work, prepared a poster on what they achieved and also delivered a presentation which was assessed by their peers.

Sinead Fahy of AcilityTM spoke at the awards ceremony and stated that, "This programme has exceeded all of our expectations and we look forward to funding another programme in 2017." Dermot O'Flynn Programme Director thanked AcilityTM for their support of this unique programme and looks forward to welcoming the next group of surgeons to the RCSI Institute of Leadership in February next year.
