The sixth International Conference for Healthcare and Medical Students (ICHAMS) is currently underway at RCSI and continues until Saturday, 18 February.

ICHAMS is an undergraduate student conference which provides healthcare and medical students the opportunity to present their research to peers and researchers from diverse fields of healthcare. In addition to the high calibre of delegates at the conference, there are numerous interactive workshops offered on a variety of topics, as well as the opportunity to network with delegates from all over the world.

More than 300 undergraduate healthcare students from all over the world are attending the conference to present oral and poster presentations on a wide variety of healthcare research. Delegates will travel from all over Ireland, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Ukraine, Romania, Canada, the USA, and Japan among many other countries. The theme of this year's event is ‘Today's research cultivating tomorrow's healthcare'.

The conference gives students the opportunity to present their research findings in an international setting and have their abstracts published in BioMedical Central Proceedings. Delegates will learn about the latest research in a variety of medical fields as well as allied health sciences. With more than 300 students attending the conference, ICHAMS is attracting international students to strengthen Ireland's and RCSI's reputation as a centre of excellence in research.

Dr Sarah O'Neill, Chair of the Scientific Committee said, "I am proud of the fact that ICHAMS is in its sixth year and this is a real testament to the dedication and hard work of our student organising committee. We are very excited about this year's programme and we anticipate it will encourage innovative thinking as attendees share their research knowledge and experiences with each other. We also look forward to welcoming our international delegates to Dublin and hope this experience gives students an insight into the world of scientific research."

The four keynote speakers, speaking over the three days at ICHAMS, are Mr Ray McKiernan, Director of European Operations at Resilience International; Dr Joseph Galvin, Consultant Cardiologist and Electrophysiologist at Connolly Hospital; Dr Anjali Rajadhyaksha, Professor of Neuroscience at Cornell University; and Dr Fionnula McHale, Specialist in Functional Medicine and certified Sports Nutritionist.

ICHAMS 2017 also offers delegates a diverse range of interactive workshops including laparoscopy and suturing surgical workshops; a physiotherapy workshop; an ear, nose, and throat examination workshop; as well as several others that will explore the areas of medical ethics, psychiatry, emergency medicine, and pharmacy.

The event will conclude with a closing ceremony where prizes will be awarded for the top oral and poster presentations. This will be followed by a champagne reception and formal gala dinner on Saturday, 18 February in the Hilton Dublin Hotel, Dublin.
