For the first time in College's 233-year history, the RCSI Men’s GAA team have won an All Ireland Football Final.

The team, led by captain, Ciarán FitzGerald (Third Year, Pharmacy) claimed a historic win over DCU in Clanna Gael, Fontenoy, Ringsend last night in the Electric Ireland HE GAA Senior Football League Division 3 Finals, on a final score of 2:12 to DCU's 1:09.

RCSI claimed an early lead scoring two quick goals but DCU fought back and there was only a point in it at half-time. DCU dominated the start of the second half racing ahead with a two-point lead, but that was no match for the grit and determination of the RCSI team who fought back to claim a six-point victory.

Speaking after the match, Ciarán FitzGerald said: “The lads have worked really hard all year. It is great to be the first team to bring the All-Ireland trophy to RCSI.

"We were the underdogs starting the season so it was great show the high-standard of talent we have on our team ... A massive thanks to everyone in RCSI for their support over not just this year but the years leading up to the final. We wouldn’t have been able to achieve this result without the hard work of John Reynolds (Third Year, Pharmacy), Calum Quinn (Fourth Year, Pharmacy) and Kieran O’Connell (Second Year, Pharmacy) who were instrumental both on and off the pitch, and Ian Kelly, MPharm, who paved the way for the team’s success. Our coach Naoise Maguire got the best out of us both in training and in matches, through his continued hard work and tactical management.”
