The RCSI Ladies GAA team saw off tough competition from DCU to scoop the Donaghy Cup at IT Blanchardstown on Friday evening.

Led by captain Eva Gilmore (1st Physiotherapy), the team were in a great position prior to Friday's clash, having overcome Marino in a tough semi final match. However, their opponents, DCU, were not a side to be underestimated. The DCU ladies started the game the stronger of the two sides. They opened the scoring with two quick points. RCSI responded with a goal and a point from Julianne Hayes and points from Shannon Fullam. However, RCSI were trailing by 4 points at the break, 1-03 to DCU's 1-07.

The RCSI ladies showed grit and determination to get back into the game in the second half. Points from Roisin Baker, Julianne Hayes and Emer McHugh saw RCSI get back into contention within the opening minutes of the second half. While an impressive save by goalkeeper Yi Wang and superb defending by the RCSI backline – which included Roisin Baker, Eva Gilmore and Niamh Sheridan – kept DCU’s tally to a single point in the second half.

RCSI kept pushing on throughout the second half with Aine Sweeney and Melissa Duggan dominant in the middle of the field. Further goals from Laura Mulrooney, Julianne Hayes and Emer McHugh ensured the Donaghy Cup was coming home to RCSI by the time the final whistle sounded on a scoreline of 4-08 to 1-08.
