On Saturday, 3 March, the Students' Union (SU) hosted the annual RCSI College Ball at The Convention Centre Dublin.

Some 400 students – from the Schools of Medicine, Pharmacy and Physiotherapy – donned in their finest ensembles, set aside their studies and braved the elements of Storm Emma for an evening of fun and celebration.

The attendees were treated to a three course meal followed by dancing into the small hours.

During the event, the annual Sports Clubs & Societies Awards took place. Aoife Huethorst, Societies Officer, acted as MC for the Societies awards and presented trophies to the following:

• Society of the Year 2018: Paediatrics Society
• Societies Person of the Year 2018: Katie Dunleavy
• Fresher of the Year 2018: Ciara Patton
• Best New Society 2018: AMSI
• Best Event 2018: Teddy Bear Hospital
• Best Educational Society 2018: Surgical Society

Manpreet Bajwa, Zakariya Ali and Ahmed Alsaffar of the Sports Union oversaw the presentations of the Sports Clubs Awards.

• Sports Man of the Year 2018: Nicholas Lam
• Sports Woman of the Year 2018: Niamh Clifford
• Sports Club of the Year 2018: Tag Rugby
• Sports Captain of the Year 2018: Eva Gilmore
• Best New Club 2018: Kickboxing

The Alan Johnson Trophy for Excellence in Sport was awarded to Martin Davey for leading the RCSI-Beaumont Rugby Team to victory in the Dublin Hospitals Cup Final.

SU President, Sarah Bissett, delivered an informative speech highlighting the year experienced by the SU. She entertained and amused the attendees with tales and anecdotes of the highs and lows of life as a member of the Union and thanked her team for their hard work, dedication and support. She also expressed thanks to Student Services and Dean Hannah McGee for their help and support throughout the year.

Congratulations to Sarah Bissett and the rest of the SU team for their hard work behind the scenes. The ball was, once again, one of the most successful events in the student calendar.
