Former Irish international rugby player and current chair of the Healthy Ireland Council, Mr Keith Wood was made an Honorary Fellow of the RCSI Faculty of Nursing & Midwifery. The award was made last night at the Faculty’s 37th Annual Honorary Conferring Ceremony and Dinner.

In a distinguished rugby career, Mr Wood was capped for Ireland 58 times and played a leading role on two British and Irish Lions tours to South Africa and Australia. As Chair of the Healthy Ireland Council, Mr Wood is dedicated to supporting everyone to enjoy the best possible health and wellbeing. He campaigns to reduce health inequalities and ensure that all people living in Ireland, regardless of differencing circumstance, can be part of, and benefit from, a healthier nation.

Dr Theresa Frawley, Dean of the RCSI Faculty of Nursing & Midwifery said: “As a healthy living advocate, Mr Wood highlights the need for and importance of research to demonstrate the value of physical activity and sport in our everyday lives. He strongly believes that a more comprehensive scientific will foster greater investment in sport, exercise, nutrition and wellbeing programmes on a nationwide basis.”

An Honorary Fellowship of the Faculty was also awarded Mr Liam Doran, former General Secretary of the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (IMNO), in recognition of his contribution to the development of nursing and midwifery in Ireland

The Faculty of Nursing &Midwifery continues to evolve and develop since its foundation in 1974. Today, the Faculty offers a suite of Continuing Professional Education programmes and works with its partners to deliver bespoke educational programmes to meet the needs of nurses and midwives in clinical and leadership roles.
