Led by RCSI Pharmacology Associate Professor Dermot Cox, the 64th annual meeting of the International Society on Thrombosis and Hemostasis begins today, bringing 3,000 national and international delegates to Dublin.

Professor Cox, who is the President of the Local Organising Committee, was instrumental in bringing this international event to Dublin.

According to Professor Cox, “the meeting will facilitate an exciting discourse about current diagnostic and therapeutic challenges, discussing novel approaches and standards that allow the field to work together toward real-time and patient-centric solutions”.

Speaking ahead of the opening of the annual meeting, Professor Cathal Kelly, RCSI CEO and Registrar said: “RCSI is home to numerous national institutes and leading research capabilities driving pioneering breakthroughs and informing policy in human healthcare. The strength and impact of the research undertaken at RCSI is evident in the fact that we have the highest research citation impact in Ireland and twice the world average. Vascular Biology is a strategic research priority for RCSI and, over the coming years, we will establish Centre of Excellence in Vascular Biology, addressing key challenges with a focus on clinical and patient-centred research.”
