RCSI launches new student life hub

  • Students

A new student life website has been launched today by RCSI Student Services. RCSI Student Life HQ is an online hub designed to provide instant and direct access to all student clubs, societies, unions and student activities at RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences.

With over 50 societies and 35 sports clubs – in addition to a vast array of events and activities delivered by the Student Union and Sports Union – there is something for every student at RCSI. Each and every one plays an important role in the learning and development of the RCSI student body in addition to playing a key role in supporting new students.

Student Life HQ provides instant access to all clubs, societies, unions and learning communities in RCSI. It will provide a vibrant calendar of online events that enables students to see upcoming activities in real-time. The site includes services and programmes related to health and wellness, such as programmes from the Student Union, Sports Union and the RCSI Gym. It will also promote upcoming volunteering opportunities where students can get involved in a variety of projects with the local community.

Corriena Brien, Head of Student Services, said: “We’re very excited to launch the new site as it will play an important role in connecting our recently arrived students with opportunities to get involved in student life. We are particularly excited that our new site has a dedicated Learning Communities village which will be led by new students partnering with staff to deliver a range of events and activities.”

Professor Cathal Kelly, RCSI CEO, said: “The COVID-19 crisis has catalysed huge changes in our students’ academic and social lives. They are studying to become healthcare professionals at an unprecedented time and many, much like RCSI staff, are very much still adapting to this ‘new normal’. While we look forward to the safe return of in-person events, we hope that our students will connect online as a way to explore interests outside of the classroom and lab. The site is one of several pathways to help new students become part of the RCSI community. It will also serve to support the continued engagement of ongoing students in student life and connect the various communities in a vibrant and engaging way.”

Student Life HQ will allow clubs, societies, unions and learning communities to promote their activities in one centralised location. Until now, each club, society and union, managed their student engagements independently. Additional features will be added over time, including an online merchandise shop where RCSI branded goods will also be made available.
