RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences announced the winners of the 2021 excellence in clinical teaching and medical education awards at the School of Medicine conferring ceremony on Friday, 28 May.

The President’s Teaching Awards were presented to Professor Mark Devocelle, Foundation Year; Dr Oran Kennedy, Year 1; Dr Robyn Poole, Year 2; Dr Owain Donnelly, Year 3; Dr Ream Langhe and Professor Farhana Sharif, Senior Cycle 1; Dr Grace Hennessy, Senior Cycle 2 and Professor Eamonn Leen, Graduate Entry Programme.

The President’s Teaching Awards were established in 2009 to recognise excellence in teaching and student learning within the university. The recipients were chosen by RCSI students in each of the cycles through the anonymous student voting process.

Professor Ronan O’Connell, President of RCSI, said: "I would like to congratulate all the recipients on their much deserved awards and for their commitment and excellence in teaching. Each of the winners have been instrumental in developing and delivering the highest standards in medical education. Students have been particularly appreciative of their unwavering commitment and dedication to providing extra support during the pandemic. We are delighted to recognise them in this way."

Presenting the Clinical Teaching Awards, Professor Arnie Hill, Head of the RCSI School of Medicine, said: "While we have all faced the challenges posed by the pandemic, it is clear that our clinical colleagues shouldered more than their fair share. They have performed above and beyond for our community and I wish to acknowledge all of our clinical colleagues for their extraordinary contributions over the past 18 months. Coupled with dealing with all the challenges of the pandemic, our clinical colleagues also managed to keep the mission of educating the next generation of doctors alive and in extremely healthy shape.
