WHO's Dr Mike Ryan to address THE University Impact Forum
Dr Mike Ryan, Executive Director of the World Health Organization (WHO) Health Emergencies Programme, will join a panel discussion at the Times Higher Education (THE) University Impact Forum: Health and Well-being, in partnership with RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences.
On 8 July, Dr Mike Ryan will join a panel discussion on the role that Sustainable Development Goal 3 – Good Health and Well-being will play in preventing the next pandemic.
Over two days, international leaders and subject experts from higher education institutions will convene to share research ideas and solutions to address the key health conditions and diseases that impact on human outcomes around the world.
Dr Ryan currently leads the WHO team responsible for the international response to COVID-19. He has been at the forefront of managing acute risks to global health for 25 years. He first joined WHO in 1996, with the newly established unit to respond to emerging and epidemic disease threats. He has worked in conflict affected countries and led many responses to high impact epidemics.
In March, Dr Ryan was awarded the inaugural Sir Charles A. Cameron Award for Population Health by RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences, in recognition of his global leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic.
