RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences will hold an interactive information session for health sciences graduates interested in pursuing a career as a physician associate (PA).

The hybrid event on Friday, 25 March will provide detail of the MSc in Physician Associate Studies at RCSI, as well as the profession more broadly.

PAs are highly-skilled healthcare professionals who provide a broad range of medical services in a wide variety of workplaces (including all types of hospital and surgical care, GP practices and community health services).

Supporting doctors and surgeons in the diagnosis and management of patients, PAs are trained to perform several roles, including taking medical histories, performing examinations, making diagnoses and analysing test results.

While all PA students hold a foundation degree in health science or a science-related area, they come from a diverse range of backgrounds from healthcare to academia.

RCSI's Physician Associate Studies programme was launched in 2015, and many of its graduates have played a critical role during the COVID-19 crisis. They work across surgical and medical services, with a number staffing some of the hospital testing facilities.

The fast-paced two-year Masters programme has a balance of theory and practice, with specific focus on the patient from day one.

The event, which will can be attended either in-person or online, will provide an opportunity to hear from the programme faculty and current students to find out first-hand about day-to-day life as a PA student and professional.

Key sessions include:

  • Physician Associates – A Global Perspective
  • Clinical Rotations
  • Life as a Physician Associate Student
  • Interactive Q&A
