RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences will host public talks and demonstrations about cancer as part of European Researchers' Night in Dublin on Friday, 30 September 2022.

The free event, ‘Demystifying Diagnosis: Cancer Research and Self-Assessment Techniques’, takes place from 6pm at 26 York St in RCSI's Dublin city centre campus. It will focus on new developments in research, self-assessment techniques and screenings and the processes involved following a potential diagnosis.

Professor Arnold Hill, Head of RCSI School of Medicine, and Dr Damir Vareslija, Lecturer in the RCSI School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Science, will speak about cancer research being carried out at RCSI, with a focus on new diagnostics and targeted treatment for cancer patients.

Healthcare professionals and expert tutors from the RCSI SIM Centre for Simulation Education and Research will provide demonstrations and information on self-assessment techniques, screening processes for cancer and the steps involved following a diagnosis. The RCSI Student Cancer Society and representatives from The Marie Keating Foundation and Movember Ireland will also be present to speak with attendees.

European Researchers’ Night is an annual event that enables more than a million people to gather together across Europe to celebrate and learn about research. By bringing researchers and the public together to interact, the aim is bring research to a wider audience.

For European Researchers' Night 2022, Trinity, RCSI, and ADAPT, the SFI Research Centre for AI-Driven Digital Content Technology, are partnering to present Start Talking About Research Today (START), with funding from the European Union Horizon Europe Programme.

As part of the START initiative, the RCSI event on demystifying cancer is open to anyone who wants to learn more about up-to-date research in cancer and techniques for self-assessments to detect early signs of the disease.
