RCSI launches new electronic logbook for NCHDs
A new eLogbook for non-consultant hospital doctors (NCHDs) registered on the Continuous Professional Development Support Scheme has been launched by RCSI.
The RCSI eLogbook was developed to provide surgical NCHDs in non-training places access the same electronic logbook as surgical trainees in core and higher surgical training programmes in Ireland. NCHDs who avail of the RCSI eLogbook will be able to upload future and historic procedures they carried out in Ireland.
This service is available free of charge to surgical NCHDs registered on the RCSI CPD Support Scheme and is voluntary for NCHDs to use.
Professor Sean Tierney, Dean of Professional Development and Practice, said: “The defining feature of a surgeon is performing invasive procedures on our patients. The eLogbook provides an accurate record of your growing experience as you develop your skills in performing these procedures. The online format makes it easy to use and always available. It is tightly integrated with our digital training and assessment tools allowing your trainers to see and verify your progress as your experience grows.
“The eLogbook allows you to produce comprehensive, appropriately formatted records for different professional purposes at different times. It will become your record of your entire operative experience for your whole career in surgery.”
Kieran Ryan, Managing Director of RCSI Surgery, said: “This electronic logbook has been specifically designed by RCSI to support NCHDs in building their surgical careers. It is part of our commitment to support all who work in the provision of surgical care to patients in Ireland. Our electronic logbook is familiar to all our consultant trainers and supervisors which gives the opportunity to have our logbook records validated.”
The eLogbook includes a large database of operations recorded which allows NCHDs to demonstrate their experience in the different areas of operative experience. NCHDs will also have access to a visual dashboard which show progress towards goals or versus peers which may be useful in submitting applications to recognise their experience.
In order to receive access to the RCSI eLogbook, NCHDs enrolled on the CPD Support Scheme can request access here.
Please note: It is mandatory for NCHDs to hold an active RCSI or Google email account to successfully register for the RCSI eLogbook.
