The shortlist for the 2024 RCSI Art Award in association with the RHA and The Irish Times has been announced.

Now in its ninth year, the RCSI Art Award celebrates the long-standing association between art, medicine and well-being. The five pieces shortlisted for the 2024 award were selected from 515 works on display at the 194th RHA Annual Exhibition, Ireland’s largest and longest-running exhibition of visual arts.

The shortlisted works are Cubist Bull by John Behan RHA, Homage to Paint and Protest by Liam Belton RHA, At the Starlit Sill I Let Them Draw Near by Eileen Leonard Sealy, The Wait by Sadhbh Mowlds and Orchestral 1 by Donald Teskey RHA.

All works of art, in any medium, selected for the 194th RHA Annual Exhibition were considered for the RCSI Art Award. The winner will be announced before the exhibition closes. The recipient will be awarded €5,000 and the RCSI silver medal. The successful artist will also receive a commission to the value of €10,000 to create a new work for the RCSI Art Collection.

Professor Cathal Kelly, RCSI Vice Chancellor, said: “The RCSI Art Award looks outward to celebrate the relationship between art and healing. The arts play an essential role in building healthy societies by bringing people together from diverse backgrounds and perspectives.

“For health sciences students and professionals in particular, the arts offer important insights into the breadth of human experience. Now in its ninth year, the 2024 RCSI Art Award showcases the wealth of talent among new and established artists exhibiting in the 194th RHA Annual Exhibition. We look forward to announcing the winner this summer.”
