StAR Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programme

RCSI's Strategic Academic Recruitment (StAR) Programme is now recruiting for up to five prestigious fully funded PhD scholarships.

  • Research theme Biomaterials and Regenerative Medicine, Cancer, Neurological and Psychiatric Disorders, Respiratory Medicine, Vascular Biology

This programme aims to attract high-achieving students to a four or five-year structured PhD training programme at RCSI and a partner university in the US.

Students will spend half of their time in Dublin and half of their time at our US partner institution. If they complete the five-year programme, they will receive their PhD from both universities.

The RCSI International StAR PhD programme aims to encourage scientists to develop innovative research projects in health sciences, with a focus on precision and regenerative medicine. Precision and regenerative medicine are distinct, but related, areas of biomedical research both of which will have a crucial role in the future of medicine and healthcare.

This unique dual PhD programme will immerse its students into a structured research environment to develop them to towards becoming conscientious, independent and creative scientists.

Faculty research interests in the proposed program can be broadly divided into the following areas:

  • Biomaterials and devices
  • Cancer biology and therapeutics
  • Pharmacogenomics, pharmaceutics and drug delivery
  • Neuroscience
  • Systems biology
  • Vascular biology
  • Stem cells and tissue engineering
  • Genomics, gene therapy and personalised medicine
  • Respiratory medicine
