Course information
This course will equip you with a comprehensive understanding of the Internet of Health Things. By the end of the course participants will:
- Gain understanding of the fundamental concepts of IoT with real-world applications within the healthcare ecosystem.
- Dive into IoT's impact on healthcare covering advantages, challenges, safety, data quality, and ethical considerations.
- Learn data governance, safety, workforce training and the future of healthcare IoT.
- Assess and analyse various approaches and strategies related to the ongoing evolution and direction of IoT in healthcare.
- Week 1: Starting with an IoHT perspective develop a foundational understanding of the core principles of IoT technology and explore the practical applications and relevance of IoT in various contexts.
- Week 2: Delve into the potential effects of IoT on the healthcare industry, including both its advantages and challenges. Additionally, you will critically assess aspects of healthcare safety, data quality, and ethical considerations within the IoT landscape.
- Week 3: Explore IoT's relevance in diverse healthcare settings such as remote care, aged care, and acute care.
- Week 4: Dive into conversations surrounding governance and safety measures in the IoT domain. Examine the significance of workforce training and data governance in the context of healthcare IoT. The week culminates with a case study and insights into the future evolution of IoT in healthcare.
- Week 5: Develop your individual action plan based on your learnings. Continuous feedback and guidance will be provided throughout the module, aligning with formative progress milestones and the weekly focus on the student summative.
We understand that online learning might be a new experience for some. Our virtual learning environment (VLE) is intuitive, accessible, and easy to navigate. A dedicated programme coordinator will be available to assist with any technical difficulties or questions about learning online.
At the start of the course, we provide short orientation videos to familiarise you with the platform and course format.
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will receive a RCSI Completion Certificate. Achieving this certificate and earning continuous professional development (CPD) points involves passing weekly MCQs, engaging in online discussions, and participating in reflective exercises, including the completion of a personal action plan.
Although this course does not carry credits as per the European Credit Transfer System, it upholds rigorous quality assurance standards to provide an excellent educational experience. The course has been approved by the RCSI Professional Development and Practice Committee and is accredited for CPD points in line with the Irish Medical Council guidelines. Participants seeking recognition in other jurisdictions should verify the applicability of these CPD points as per their local requirements.

There are no entry requirements, and no formal application review is needed. Once your application is submitted and your fee has been paid successfully, your seat will be confirmed on your course.
