MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship (Global Surgery)
The RCSI Institute of Global Surgery (IGS) is seeking a postdoctoral candidate to apply for a Maria Skłodowska-Curie Action (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellowship under the supervision of Dr Jakub Gajewski.
The research will be focused on comparing the cost, cost-effectiveness and impact of two models of training surgeons in Sub-Saharan Africa using the activity-based costing (ABC) approach. It will involve developing, designing and implementing studies, such as:
- Tracking mechanisms for surgical graduates including place of current employment, with a qualitative follow-up for an in-depth understanding of career choices.
- Examining the range and volume of surgical cases undertaken.
This will inform novel surgical training frameworks aiming to improve the delivery of surgical care for neglected populations in the region and beyond.
Who can apply?
You should demonstrate significant accomplishments in the area of health economics and commitment to excellence in research in a multidisciplinary environment. Prior experience in global surgery and/or human resources for health will be an asset. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills are also required.
You must fulfil the eligibility requirements to apply for the current Marie Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship. The applicant, if successful, would be expected to move to Ireland for two years with short secondments in countries both in Europe and Africa. The Fellowship offers a very competitive salary in addition to funding for training, networking, and research costs.
RCSI provides proposal support and has an excellent track record with the programme (at 45%, our success rate is more than double that of the EU average).
