Today, the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery focuses on the continuing education of qualified nurses and midwives.

We offer an extensive and diverse range of CPD programmes, aptitude tests for international nurses as a prerequisite to registration with the NMBI and a number of scholarships and awards to support your learning journey.

RCSI provides a competency test for overseas general nurses in order to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) and practice in Ireland.

Scholarships and awards

PhD and Professional Doctorate Scholarship

In partnership with the School of Postgraduate Studies, we offer five scholarships per year to nurses and midwives who wish to undertake research.

Clinical Bursary Awards

Five clinical bursaries – each to the value of €5,000 – are available to registered nurses and midwives, in the direct provision of health and social care, across all practice settings.

The aim of the European Centre of Excellence for Research in Continuing Professional Development (UPGRADE) is to establish a pan-European network of researchers, clinicians, regulators and professional bodies to advance the science of continuing professional development (CPD).
