Join us in RCSI on Friday, 21 March at 12.30pm for our first lunchtime talk of 2025. Entitled 'The Eyes of Ireland: How eye diseases have shaped the literary, cultural and political history of Ireland', the talk will be delivered by Mr Tim Horgan FRCSI, Consultant Ophthalmologist, University Hospital Kerry.
Mr Horgan is a native of County Kerry and a graduate of UCD medical school. He is a Fellow of RCSI, a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland and a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He works as an ophthalmologist in University Hospital Kerry.
Tim is also a historian with a specialist interest in the revolutionary period in Co. Kerry. He has had three books published in this field; The Men Will Talk to Me – Kerry interviews of Ernie O’Malley (Mercier, Cork, 2012), Dying for The Cause (Mercier, Cork, 2015) and Fighting for The Cause (Mercier, Cork, 2018). Combining both his interests, Dr Horgan has lectured widely on the topic of ophthalmic diseases in Ireland’s history and can be considered the authority on the subject.
We are looking forward to hearing from Mr Horgan on this fascinating topic, and all are welcome to join us in the Albert Lecture Theatre, RCSI Dublin on Friday, 21 March at 12.30pm, with tea and coffee provided afterwards.
