Summary
This bone fracture fixation course will start with classification systems and decision making on the type of fixation of fractures in different scenarios. The practical sessions will range from the application of simple screws and plates to complex fixation of fractures using k-wires, tension band wiring, intramedullary nailing. We will discuss the principles of application of an external fixator. The bone models will be synthetic sawbones and animal legs with fractures for both the upper and lower limb.
Learning outcomes
- Improved decision-making on the type of fixation method to use in named fracture scenarios
- Increased confidence in the application of plates and wire fixation
- Enhanced knowledge of the equipment and set-up for various fracture fixation methods
Suitable for: SHOs and registrars in orthopaedics
