The RCSI StAR MD programme provided me with the unique opportunity of protected research time, physical space to carry out my research, maintenance of a competitive salary which is often an underestimated burden in the medical field when carry out research years in addition to monetary support for consumables.

The regular reviews and input from research experts allowed me to formulate my thesis with clear direction and the significant support from the RCSI led to fruitful outputs from my research on exercise and the inflammatory response in patients with inflammatory bowel disease.
