Creating a legacy

Founded as the national training body for surgery in Ireland, RCSI has been at the forefront of healthcare education for over 230 years. Today, we are an innovative, world-leading international health sciences education and research institution.

Much of this work has only been possible thanks to the generosity of our supporters and, notably, those who have chosen to support our work by leaving a gift in their Will. These special gifts are crucial to making sure we continue to lead the world to better health for future generations.

Frequently asked questions

Organising your will can seem confusing at first, but once you get started it’s easier than you think. Below are the answers to some frequent questions, along with our RCSI 1784 Society Brochure.

Yes, you can talk to RCSI in advance about how you would like your gift to be used for maximum impact. Alternatively, you can leave it for RCSI to designate to programmes that form part of the RCSI_TOMORROW campaign.

RCSI will update your family annually on how your gift is being used to transform lives. Your family will be invited to come to the University to see first-hand the lasting impact of your legacy.

No, but we would welcome the opportunity to thank you properly, and in a way that is fitting for you.

Having something named in someone’s honour at RCSI is popular and is a fitting way to thank important and special donors.

Naming opportunities are varied, but to ensure that the right opportunity is available to you we would discuss your request with you. If you would like to talk more about this, please call Aine Gibbons, Director of Development on +353 (1) 402 8548.

Your solicitor will need to know what type of gift you wish to make – whether you would like to leave a specific amount, or a percentage of your estate. You will also need to let them know RCSI’s address and charity number:

  • Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, 123 St Stephens Green, Dublin 2, Ireland
  • Registered Charity No. 20001957 CHY1277

You can talk more about how to leave a bequest with Aíne Gibbons, Director of Development, on +353 (0)1402 8548 or ainegibbons@rcsi.ie.

If you would like to come and meet in person, we are happy to set up a meeting at St Stephen's Green.
