Neurological and Psychiatric Disorders
Neurological disorders are the leading cause of disability and the second leading cause of death worldwide. There is a clear need to better understand the underlying causes of neurological disease, to offset the development and disease, and to help the development of safer and more effective treatments approaches where disease has developed.
The RCSI School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences neurology and psychiatric disease cluster has a broad spectrum of expertise including clinical neurology, epileptology, genomics, population genetics, bioinformatics, neuropharmacology, preclinical experimental modelling and cell biology. Combining these expertise across a range or ongoing studies, RCSI researchers run biobanks to enable neurological research, identify novel genetic risk factors for disease and develop novel therapies and delivery mechanisms.
