Research for the goals

At RCSI, we are dedicated to conducting impactful research that contributes to global efforts aimed at achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

RCSI is Ireland’s only university solely focused on education, training and research in health sciences. As a signatory to the SDG Accord, RCSI is committed to achieving the SDGs through its education, research and university operations.

During the period 2018-2024, 37% of RCSI research was mapped to UNSDG Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being, which aims to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all.

Through the work of the Sustainability and Climate Health Committee, our research workstream will seek to enhance awareness of research funding and international collaboration opportunities linked with furthering the UNSDGs.

Collaboration is key to achieving the SDGs. We actively engage with local and global partners including government agencies, NGOs, industry leaders, and other academic institutions to leverage expertise, resources, and networks for collective impact. International research projects such as SURG-Africa, Akazi, KidSURG, Waterspoutt and Paniwater and all exemplars of RCSI’s global impact on sustainability.

Our researchers and university leaders are also committed to adopting sustainable practices in our labs through the Green Lab programme.
