Canadian Ambassador meets with Canadian Students at RCSI Medical University of Bahrain

The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) - Medical University of Bahrain, welcomed on campus His Excellency Jean-Philippe Linteau, Ambassador of Canada to the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Republic of Yemen, and the Sultanate of Oman alongside Ms Sonia Hukil, Trade Commissioner responsible for the Education sector. The visit led by Professor Sameer Otoom, President of RCSI Medical University of Bahrain, included discussions on collaboration opportunities and interactions with Canadian students enrolled at the University.

With 127 Alumni currently training or working in Canada, RCSI Medical University of Bahrain has created strong ties with Canadian institutions, such as the University of Toronto, the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, St Michael's hospital in Toronto and McMaster University Medical Centre - Hamilton Health Sciences, and the Ambassador expressed his enthusiasm for fostering these connections further, noting Canada’s status as the fifth most popular destination for the University's alumni.

During their visit, the delegation met with students from Canada currently studying at the University, who shared their positive experiences of living in this region and studying at RCSI Medical University of Bahrain, while the delegation reaffirmed its commitment to supporting all Canadian nationals through the Honorary Consulate of Canada in Bahrain.

Professor Sameer Otoom, President of RCSI Medical University of Bahrain, remarked: “We are delighted that 151 Canadian nationals are studying at the University this academic year. We are committed to supporting them throughout their academic journey and post-graduation. Strengthening partnerships with Canadian institutions remains a priority, and we look forward to working with His Excellency Jean-Philippe Linteau to further enhance these relationships.”

His Excellency Jean-Philippe Linteau, shared his appreciation, stating: “I am pleased to see so many Canadian students thriving at RCSI Medical University of Bahrain. We are eager to support the development of strong partnerships between Canada and RCSI to enhance collaboration in education and healthcare for the benefit of students and institutions alike.”
