Gynaecology, Obstetrics and Perinatal Health
RCSI is a leader in translational research that benefits both women's health and overall public health.
Our programme of research involves a diverse cohort of clinical staff such as obstetricians, neonatologists, midwives and related professionals who work in some of the busiest maternity hospitals in Ireland, such as Dublin’s Rotunda Hospital.
Core research topics include intra-uterine growth restriction (IUGR), discordant growth in twins, the role of platelet function in poor obstetric outcomes, prenatal diagnosis of aneuploidy, subclinical hypothyroidism in pregnancy, twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS) and advanced fetal surgery.
RCSI also leads the HRB Mother and Baby Clinical Trial Network Ireland, which is conducting several definitive interventional clinical trials in seven of the largest maternity hospitals in Ireland.
