I am the owner of Fortune’s Pharmacy in Wexford and I’ve been in community pharmacy for my whole career.

I’m always looking for new ways to work. There is a sea change happening in digital health and pharmacy, and how health records and electronic prescriptions come into play will be a part of that. I saw RCSI’s Professional Diploma in Leading Digital Health Transformation as a way of preparing myself for what is coming and, perhaps, to position myself as someone who could influence things.

The course also had huge benefits for me in developing not just leadership skills but also a growth mindset and the emotional intelligence that helps to lead teams and collaborate with other agencies and organisations.

I’ve become better at responding to customers where, for instance, there is a medicine shortage and I suggest an alternative, I can adjust my own tone and body language based on their response.

It’s changed how I relate to my staff and helped me to lead by example, and we have even started a number of digital projects within the business.
