At RCSI Medical University of Bahrain, we are committed to making a meaningful impact on local and international communities. Through our Community Engagement and Service strategic pillar, we empower students, staff, and alumni to engage in volunteerism, health awareness initiatives, and humanitarian projects, fostering a lifelong commitment to social responsibility.
How We Make a Difference
Community Engagement & Awareness Campaigns
Every year, the university hosts several awareness campaigns to highlight the importance of community work and raising awareness among the public. These initiatives aim to foster student involvement, support health education, and collaborate with local institutions. These events are our highlights but not limited to, we collaborate with Student Club Societies and Alumni for various campaigns and initiatives. Some of our Community Engagement key campaigns include:
- Smile Youth Charity: Supporting Childhood cancer and medical treatment in collaboration with SMILE Youth Charity, hosting educational talk and organizing fundraising initiatives
- Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign: Supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month by collaborating with charitable organizations in Bahrain, hosting educational talks, and organising fundraising initiatives.
- Royal Life Saving Bahrain: Teaching first aid and drowning prevention techniques to students and staff through collaboration with Royal Life Saving Bahrain, annually training a batch to support in external events, such as formula, Al-Danah amphitheatre events, Bahrain world exhibition center events and beach events.
- Mental Health Awareness Campaign: Hosting talks and discussions throughout the academic year with expert academic staff to promote mental well-being to students and staff.
- Movember Awareness Month: Organising a fundraising campaign to support men's health initiatives.
- MCP Fundraiser Programme: Integrated into the Medical Commencement Programme curriculum, focusing on cultural communication and charity by visiting charities and hosting fundraising initiatives.
- Student Choice Module: Year 2 medical students visit charities and institutions to assess cultural and communication barriers in healthcare.
- Blood Donation Drives: Conducted annually in partnership with the Salmaniya Blood Bank.
- Beach Clean-Up Initiative: Organised during Health and Sustainability Week to emphasize environmental responsibility in collaboration with Muharraq Municipality.
- Colorectal Cancer Awareness Campaign: A collaboration with King Hamad University Hospital and the School of Nursing & Midwifery, emphasizing public awareness of colorectal cancer.
- Ramadan Awareness Campaign: Supporting Zakat initiatives and charitable activities for orphans and families in need.
- Hypertension Awareness Campaign: Providing health screenings and public awareness on hypertension in collaboration with King Hamad American Mission Hospital.
- Teddy Bear Hospital Initiatives: Run through several initiatives annually focusing on reducing childhood anxiety about healthcare settings while fostering lifelong health and safety habits in a fun, interactive environment. This in collaboration with the Pediatric Student Club Society.
The university’s Volunteer Programme provides students, staff, and alumni with opportunities to engage in community outreach. This includes supporting health awareness events, assisting local charities, and participating in global medical missions.
- Diabetes Mobile Unit (DMU): Educating young students on diabetes prevention in collaboration with the Bahrain Diabetes Society, Ministry of Health and Education, and sponsored by Rotary Club Manama.
- Future Nurses Bahrain: Promoting nursing as a career to support Bahrain’s healthcare workforce under the patronage of the Supreme Health Council.
- Health Awareness Art Competition Award: A competition engaging secondary school students in creating awareness about key health issues.
- International Community Engagement (ICE) Programme: Selected students travel abroad to support healthcare services in developing countries.
Through these initiatives, the university fosters a culture of social responsibility, encouraging students and faculty to actively contribute to community well-being.
Collaboration and Impact
RCSI Bahrain actively collaborates with local and international organisations, including the Bahrain Diabetes Society, Bahrain Red Crescent Society, Jordan Red Crescent Society, Operation Childlife, Think Pink Bahrain, Bahrain Cancer Society, Migrant Workers Protection Society, SMILE Childhood Cancer, Tree of Life Society, and Royal Life Saving Bahrain to extend its outreach efforts. Through these initiatives, our volunteers contribute thousands of hours annually, supporting sustainable healthcare improvements and strengthening community ties.
